Sunny Hills Children's Garden - Home Based Family Services
September 2001- September 2004
In this internship, I had the opportunity to work with at risk culturally diverse families in crisis at their own home. Working collaboratively with Child Protective Services and/or Probation, my role was preservation of the family. This entailed linking the family to an array of services that addressed the family’s physical, emotional, social, educational, and vocational needs. Most of these clients had a combination of mental illness and substance abuse issues.

Suicide Prevention and Community Counseling Team
September 2001-August 2001
Certified Grief Counselor:
In working with grief clients, I witnessed how attending to the person by empathizing with their feelings and allowing each individual to tell their story assists in the healing process. The grieving process also reveals our inherent strengths and the incredible resilience of the human spirit.
Certified Suicide Prevention Counselor:
In suicide prevention counseling, I was trained in crisis intervention. Through this experience, I was able to evaluate the severity of the crisis by assessing the level of impairment in the individual. After this, I would develop a plan with the caller to reduce the potential for self destructive behavior.
